Katie Tarbox: Internet Safety School Visits
October 17, 2003

As part of the Youth Services Internet Safety Night program, young adult author Katie Tarbox visited Oliver McCracken Middle School and East Prairie School to talk with students and teachers about online safety. Katie is the author of Katie.com: My Story, a firsthand account of a teenager’s online life and her painful experience with an Internet predator whom she met in a teen chat room. Katie talked honestly and openly with students about what happened to her, the important lessons she learned about the Internet and safe surfing, and how kids can protect themselves online. Students at both schools were equally honest with their questions about Katie's experience and their concerns about online safety.

Katie enjoyed her visit to Skokie and sent her thanks and best wishes in a letter to students and the Skokie Public Library community.
