Early Literacy Month Reception
April 30, 2005

In April, the Youth Services Department focused on early literacy, which is what children know about reading and writing before they can actually read and write. We celebrated the end of Early Literacy Month with a reception where children and their families played letter games, practiced narrative skills by retelling folktales with props, made paper bag puppets and silver medals, enjoyed healthy snacks, and entered a raffle. The future readers also danced to Jim Gill's List of Dances, searched for Miss Mouse, enjoyed a Little Red Hen puppet show, and participated in a dramatic retelling of The Turnip. Take a look!
