Space Odyssey: The New Solar System in Dance
Sunday, March 4 at 2:30pm (followed immediately by the Young Steinway Concert)
The Evanston Dance Ensemble brings us a brief preview of the group’s upcoming full-length show. Travel through space as the dancers and music evoke a particular mood for each celestial body in ballet, jazz, and modern dance styles. North Shore Magazine describes the ensemble as “advanced placement for dancers — they look like junior Balanchines and minor Isadora Duncans. You’re going to ask yourself, incredulously, ‘They’re how old?’”
Performance groups and soloists from North Shore Dance Center present new and award-winning dances to music from The Lion King, Pajama Game, The Devil Wears Prada, and Fosse musicals. Take One performs musical theater dances choreographed by Kirsten Markham. Showstoppers is a modern and jazz ensemble choreographed by Ruben Zapata.
The Library will be jumping as all five hip hop and jazz performance companies from Urban Beat Dance present the hottest hip hop and jazz dancing around. The dancers range from 8 to 20 years old and will perform their coolest new dances in a program for the whole family.
These performances are supported by the Skokie Fine Arts Commission and the Illinois Arts Council.
